Background & Experience
I started working in construction right after high school. Construction always fascinated me. My father was a construction worker and I saw him build bathrooms and a kitchen in our home.
For the first seven years of my career, I was part of a company who built additions and add-a-levels. These projects often included adding an extra bathroom or extending a kitchen. When building an addition, you often go through different phases of construction. These phases include laying out a footing, framing up the shell, adding siding, roofing, windows, doors etc. However, when I first started I was handed a black bag and gloves. As the low man on the totem pole, I picked up garbage, put away tools, and cleaned the job site, including the driveway to make sure nails were not left behind.
Then I progressed up the ladder in construction, from a laborer to lead carpenter. However, I knew my place in construction was as a project manager. I loved to talk to homeowners about their project and their materials.
So, I transitioned to project management at the Home Depot, where I worked from an office. For three years I had to work with clients and crews exclusively over the phone and going by pictures. While I would never recommend this type of project management, I believe the experience strengthened my ability to communicate, especially over the phone.
The biggest project that I managed was combining two condos on the 40th floor of a Manhattan high rise. I had to manage crews, building staff, and different schedules. However the most challenging was managing the delivery of materials from all over the world, like hand-made clay tiles from Paris, as well as other tiles from India. This project was valued at 600K, and took 6 months to plan and another 6 months to complete.
I also have a real estate license, which in my mind is just another way of viewing property. Beyond just a project, as a home where families live their lives.
I look forward to working with you to make your home more enjoyable.
