This older house in Chatham, NJ was purchased by a family who intended to make a number of cosmetic changes to their new home. Our Monk’s team gave this family their dream home through the design and installation of custom wainscoting, custom baseboard, crown molding and beadboard paneling. We refinished their hardwood floors with our dustless sanding process and painted the interior of the home after removing the existing wallpaper.
Here is a view of the stairwell before removing the wallpaper and installing the custom wainscoting.
First, our painting professionals stripped the wallpaper. Then our carpenters added the chair rail, baseboard, and picture-frame molding.
Hardwood Floor Refinishing During Carpentry Upgrades
Many of our customers decide to have their hardwood floors refinished along with having the interior of their home painted. These new homeowners also chose to complete multiple jobs at the same time. Our typical process for combining these different jobs, as we did in this example, goes as follows. First, we sand, stain and apply two coats of poly to your hardwood floors. Second, custom carpentry work is completed. Third, we paint the interior. The last step is to apply the final coat of poly to the floors. This timeline allows for proper drying time for the floors.
Custom crown molding and upgraded baseboards were added to the living room. Because the vents were so low on the wall we notched the baseboard around the venting.

In the office, we added new 48″ beadboard, new baseboard and new chair rail. A fresh coat of paint finished the room.
Before During After
In the dining room, the homeowners were looking to create a more formal look. We stripped the wallpaper and installed new three-piece baseboard, chair rail, and picture-frame molding. To create more definition between the kitchen and dining room, new french doors were installed.
