While this 1980s master bath was fully functional, its age was evident in both style and wear. Monk’s remodeled the space to create a larger shower area by removing a linen closet and soffit. A dual sink vanity was also part of the homeowner’s wish list.
Because this master bath was located above the garage, the floor was very cold in the winter months. A programmable heated floor mat was installed under the porcelain floor tile so the homeowner would always have warm feet, no matter what the temperature was outside.
After removing the linen closet and soffit, the plumbing was relocated and the shower stall was framed. Additional insulation was placed between the back shower wall and the adjoining attic space. In addition to the underfloor heating, this extra insulation will help decrease temperature fluctuation.
After the programmable underfloor heat mat was laid, the new porcelain tile was installed on top. This tile has the look of stained wood with all the benefits of porcelain such as moisture resistance and easy cleaning.
The walls were prepped to accommodate the new medicine cabinets and lighting. Then the new vanity was installed and leveled. New low-flow Toto toilet was also installed.
The marble tile is in process of being installed. The tile installation was a bit tricky with the bump-out, so the bull-nosed edge pieces needed to be secured while they set.
The completed shower incorporated marble tile and marble shelving, accent tile and a built-in shampoo shelf.
This is a look at the vanity with double sinks and Grohe fixtures after being installed.
