Like many older homes, this Convent Station, NJ home has plaster walls; and like many plaster walls, this one was showing damage after years of wear. The homeowners called in our team of Monk’s to repair a particularly damaged piece of a plaster wall in their home. In only two days our team was able to cut out the damaged area of the plaster wall and replace it with new sheetrock.
Before our team performed the repairs, you could see that that the plaster wall was buckling off of its wooden frame (the lathe). This wall is along the main stairwayof the home; a high traffic area that the homeowners wanted to keep in tip top shape. Plaster walls like these can be over 100 years old. Over time the plaster lifts off of the lathe, creating the buckling effect.
To make the repair our team at Monk’s cuts out the damaged plaster, exposing the horizontal wooden planks underneath (the lathe).
Our team members carefully cut a piece of sheetrock that will fit exactly into the wall.
The sheetrock is then installed. The surface is taped, and spackled.
The area is then smoothed and skim coat is applied. Skim coat provides a smooth sheen to not just the sheetrock, but the entire area; giving the newly repaired wall a smooth and seamless look.
Another job well done by Monk’s!
