Project Info
Location: Basking Ridge, NJ
Scope of Work: Full Bathroom Remodel
This hallway bathroom had a slightly unique configuration courtesy of an adjoining chimney and linen closet. This resulted in an awkward entrance to the bathroom that was not square. Obviously, the chimney couldn’t be relocated. However, we did reconfigure the linen closet. In addition, we took advantage of the chimney by removing the plaster and framing. This resulted in an exposed brick wall that gave lots of character to this new bathroom.
Exposed Brick Wall and Chevron Tile Floor
Firstly, the homeowner worked with a Monk’s designer to create the altered bathroom layout and select all the finish materials. Designers in our showrooms will help you select cabinetry or vanities, design your tile pattern, choose countertops, faucets and hardware. They will help coordinate everything and make sure that you have the correct type and quantity for your project.
Once all the materials were delivered to the home, our crew started demolition. We removed the dated tub and half wall. The linen closet was relocated slightly to allow the bathroom door to open fully. We removed the plaster and frame covering the chimney. This allowed us to create an exposed brick wall.
After we completed the framing, the electrician installed an electric heat mat on the floor. This would replace the bulky baseboard beating. We installed tile over the heat mat in a chevron pattern.
Monk’s carpenters rounded the corner of the shower to improve access to the bathroom. We built a bench and installed subway tile on the shower walls, as well as behind the vanity. Coordinating hexagon mosaic tiles were set on the shower floor.
We relocated the toilet next to the shower in order to make room for a double vanity. The carpenters installed crown molding. Finally, we installed pretty crystal knobs to complete the soft feel of the new bathroom.
With the newly exposed brick wall and updated tile, the bathroom got a pretty makeover. We were also able to improve the function of the room by altering the access and adding a second sink.
