Repair and Repaint Deck in Florham Park NJ

Repair and Repaint Deck

Scope of Work: Deck Repair and Repaint
Town: Florham Park, NJ
Timing: 3 days

This backyard deck was a little worn from the sun and moisture. A few floorboards needed to be replaced, and the deck needed to be re-stained. Additionally, the homeowners requested that we build a gate at the top of the deck stairs. This will keep dogs and small children from falling or making a quick escape. In 3 days we were able to make this deck safe and looking great.

Monk’s carpenters kicked off this project by removing the rotted pieces of decking. This included a few floorboards as well as the bottom tread. The homeowners complained that the deck stairs were bouncy and that portions of the deck were loose. Not a problem.

The homeowners complained that the existing deck stairs were bouncy and that portions of the deck were loose. Not a problem. We added a stringer to the stairs to provide support and stability to the stairs. We tightened up some boards and railings so everything was solid.

Once the carpenters were finished, the paint crew came to complete the project. First, the painters pressure washed the entire deck. Once the deck was dry, we began palm sanding. We sanded the decking, railing, balusters, stairs and fascia. This is an important step which allows the wood to soak up the new stain.

Painters primed the new wooden portions of the deck. Afterwards, they applied a solid stain to the entire deck by hand. We began with the railings and balusters and worked our way down the deck.

This deck is looking great, and the dog and kids can safely play in the newly secured space.
