Scope of Work: Deck refacing using Zuri composite
Town: Denville, NJ
Timing: 6 days
The deck off the back of this Denville, NJ home was a well-loved outdoor extension of the home. Family members enjoyed relaxing, dining and entertaining in the space. After many years, it was time to make some improvements to the wooden structure. The homeowners decided to replace the pressure-treated lumber decking with composite. This would provide the family with a solid deck for years and years with practically zero maintenance.
Deck Refacing Using Zuri Composite
Carpenters began by removing the existing railing structure. Then, they removed all the decking.
Additionally, the two sets of stairs were removed entirely. This is because the homeowners wanted both sets of stairs to be reconfigured. The one set by the back door they simply wanted expanded to provide a wider opening. The other staircase was a unique configuration with a fairly narrow opening which then flared out quite wide. The homeowner wanted the opening to be expanded, but have an equal width down the stairs.
After the demo was complete, the only remaining portions were structural – the footings, posts, beams, and joists.
We created new landings for the staircases to best support the new frames. You always need something stable like concrete or brick to support the stairs so there is no sinking or settling. Then the staircases were reframed to meet the brief.
The Zuri composite decking was installed, as were the treads. You can see samples of Zuri composite and the different finished available at our Morristown showroom.
Afterward, the Intex railing system was installed. This is a man-made material that won’t rot or peel. Combined with the Zuri decking, this refaced deck is now ready to take the elements head-on.
These homeowners are now ready to enjoy their beautiful “new” deck for summer!
