The owners of this Morristown, NJ home wanted to open up their kitchen and dining rooms to create one large, open-plan space. To do this, they called in our team at Monk’s to demolish the existing wall between the dining room and kitchen. In a matter of weeks, our team had not only opened up the floor plan of this home but also completely revamped the kitchen with a full renovation.

When our team arrived on site this home’s kitchen and dining room were two distinctly separate spaces.

This project began where many projects start – with demo. Monk’s demolished the wall between the kitchen and dining room, removed all of the existing cabinetry, and took up the tile floor in the kitchen. We brought in new hardwood flooring to acclimate to the climate of the house. This takes a few days.

In the mean time, carpenters put in the new sheetrock which they spackled and sanded.

Next, Monk’s installed the new hardwood floor in the kitchen. They feathered the new hardwood into the existing hardwood flooring in the dining room.  Finally, they sanded, stained, and applied polyurethane to all of the hardwood flooring in the kitchen, dining room, foyer, and hallway.

Monk’s Designers created the layout and helped the client select the Ultracraft cabinetry, along with all of the other materials. After we installed the cabinetry, the granite countertops were templated.

During the next 7 days, we built the cabinetry doors and the crown molding. Then the granite was ready for installation. The new island countertop was comprised entirely of one solid piece of granite. in fact, due to the layout of the kitchen, there weren’t any seams required for the lovely tops.

A glass mosaic subway tile backsplash was installed by our skilled workers. Then they put in new hardware to complete the kitchen project.

We finished off the entire space with a full interior paint job.

What an amazing transformation! To see all the photos of this project, visit the Kitchen and Dining Room Remodel project page. You can also view the entire project here.
