Scope of work: Exterior painting
Timeline: 7-8 days
Location: Basking Ridge, NJ
The cedar shingles on this home in Basking Ridge, NJ 07920 were in need of a complete sanding and exterior paint job. Many people believe that harsh weather like rain and snow are the cause of worn exteriors. However, the real culprit is the sun. Sun damage required that this cedar home be stripped, primed and painted to restore it to its former glory.
Exterior Painting and Sanding
Before starting this project, we tented the home with tarps. Additionally, we use Hepa-Vac sanders. Consequently, we are able to greatly reduce the amount of dust in the air. Because of this, children and pets are able to safely play outside after we complete the sanding.
Because of the excessive peeling and cracking of the shingles, we needed to sand the shingles down to 95% bare wood. You can see how smooth and even the shingles are after the stripping process.
After sanding, we powerwash the house to remove dirt and sawdust. Painters then applied the first coat of high-quality oil-based primer. After the first coat absorbs into the shingle and has dried completely, we went over the home and hand sanded the shingles. The second coat of primer was then applied to cover up any staining.
Before painting we caulked all seams and corners. Finally, time to paint! Two coats of Aura Exterior Paint were applied. Monk’s thorough process for sanding and painting cedar shingles allowed us to offer our standard three year warranty for this exterior paint job.
