Timeline: 3 days
These Basking Ridge homeowners called our team at Monk’s with a unique request. They wanted to renovate their foyer to create a more open feel. The homeowners envisioned removing a main wall and installing a railing to create a more gentle flow from the top floor, down the main stair case, and through the basement stairs.
In only three days Monk’s was able to deliver this vision.
After hearing the homeowner’s request our team at Monk’s had to decide whether such a renovation was even feasible. Concerns about the amount of support that particular wall was providing were discussed. It was decided that our team at Monk’s could make this renovation work; a large column would replace the wall.
The first step to this project was removing the existing wall.
As the wall was ripped out all of the old framing and studs were also removed; the existing outlet was also moved to a different wall.
A brand new poplar column was built for support.
An additional support beam was also built underneath the steps.
With the basement door removed as well you can begin to get a sense of the openness this new remodeling job will provide.
New oak railings, and spindles were installed. The team sheet rocked, taped and spackled all areas of the wall that were removed.
To finish, all wall paper was removed, the walls were prepped, primed, and painted. Accents of the poplar column were enhanced as well.
To achieve the finished, polished look these homeowners were striving for all hand rails were sanded and had two coats of satin impervio oil based finish in mink applied. These dark hand rails give the space a sleek modern look.
And with that, the job was complete! In only three days our team at Monk’s was able to transform the foyer of this Basking Ridge, NJ 07920 home into the foyer the homeowners had envisioned.
Another job well done by Monk’s!
