Any exterior painted wood surface will be subjected to the elements, and consequently, will require regular upkeep. This goes for the wooden columns that are used to support the front door overhang at this Morristown, NJ home. The paint on the columns was peeling and puckering and in need of repair. In just two days, these columns were looking like new.

Repainting Columns for a Front Overhang
For professional painters, this is a straightforward job of repainting columns. The wooden columns were not rotted, so we did not need to make any carpentry repairs. However, if the homeowners were to neglect to repaint the columns, water would be able to penetrate the wood. Then the columns would be susceptible to rot.
For this project, the painters began by scraping the loose paint from the columns. Then they hand-sanded the columns. The painters wiped off any dust. Then the painters applied oil-based primer to the columns.
After the primer had dried, the painters lightly sanded the columns again. Afterward, the painters applied two coats of exterior Duration paint by Sherwin-Williams.
In just two days, painters protected the columns from the weather and had them looking great.
