By adding a deck to your home you are increasing the value of your home, as well as creating an outdoor entertaining area. Whether you want to host a barbecue, or relax with a book in the sun, adding a deck to your home provides lots of summer enjoyment. Monk’s carpenters were called in to build a brand new composite deck for this Basking Ridge, NJ home. In only ten days our team had completed the project, which transformed their backyard into the perfect place to entertain and relax!
New Composite Deck
To begin this project our team first created the footings. We dug holes 36 inches deep and filled them with concrete. The footings, like the joists and all other components of the frame work, were built with pressure treated lumber. We use pressure treated lumber because it is extremely sturdy and also moisture resistant. This is particularly important for the framework. If the framework were made out of regular wood the moisture of the ground would cause the wood to rot and deteriorate.
Since this is a brand new composite deck, an access point needed to be created. We removed one of the home’s windows and installed a sliding glass door in its place. Monk’s carpenters handled this project as well.
One of the most important parts of building a deck is making sure that ledger board is installed with proper flashing. For this project our team installed 2″ x 8″ ledger board with copper flashing. The flashing acts as a barrier, preventing water from dripping into the seams of your house.
Next we installed the composite floorboards and railings. Composite is a great choice for deck projects because it is water resistant and low maintenance. Composite is available in a variety of colors to ensure a match to the style of your home.
We also installed a white composite apron for this deck project.
The carpenters constructed a composite gate at the top of the stairs. A gate is a great way to ensure safety for children and pets.
To finish off the deck, as well as keeping pesky animals from living underneath, our team installed lattice. We framed the pressure-treated lattice with composite.
A beautiful new composite deck is complete after just 10 days.
