Monk’s Home Improvements annually awards $10,000 in scholarships to local students. Five $2,000 scholarships are awarded based on applicants’ efforts to better our community through volunteering and service work.
We proudly recognized our 2024 recipients at an awards ceremony in May.
Meet the Monk’s Service Scholarship Recipients
Arjun Choudhury, Millburn High School
Arjun founded the district-wide Multilingual Tutoring Club to help students learn in their first language. He developed the MELODY app delivering personalized stress-relieving music to benefit his peers and seniors. He’s led a group that performs music for seniors, and another that teaches them chess.
Caitlin Eng, Verona High School
Caity directs the social media for Aid2Day and works closely with cancer patients and their families to raise money and promote mental wellness. She also volunteers at We Are Queens and tutors displaced Ukranian students. Additionally, she serves as the student rep for the Verona Library liaising between the library and Verona High School to brainstorm and promote teen programs.
Jacob Grabell, Rutgers University (resides in Bridgewater)
Unsurprisingly, a boy who organized a bone marrow drive for his Bar Mitzvah is the youngest volunteer at Rutgers’ Gift of Life chapter. Jacob has recruited hundreds of RU students into the bone marrow donation database. Additionally, Jacob has volunteered as his sister’s basketball and soccer coach. He also serves as a religious school teacher.
Ryan Lalani, Mountain Lakes High School
Ryan serves as Deputy Chief of the Junior Department of the Mountain Lakes Fire Department. Working with St. Joseph’s School for the Blind, he creates personalized cane tags for the visually impaired using a 3-D printer. Noticing dwindling involvement in town events, Ryan revamped the volunteering process for high school students causing a massive increase in volunteers.
Kayleigh McArdle, Whippany Park High School
Kayleigh founded the “Women in Business & Law: A Career Readiness Camp” to teach girls financial literacy and legal rights. Additionally, she helped tutor international students for the SATs. As Interact President, she obtained school board approval for in-school trips to the Urban Farm, an organization where she has volunteered for 5 years.
